"Performance feedback on projects" in Dynamics 365 BC - Part 1: Project creation

Today we would like to show you how you can easily create and manage projects with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

To create a new project, you must first create a Project map with integrated project tasks and project plan lines.

In the project card, for example, you can create the project description, the customer with the corresponding invoice address (if you want to invoice directly from the project later) or the project manager.

In addition, each project has so-called associated Project tasks. You must create at least one project task for each project, as all postings relate to one project task. You can number the project tasks as you wish. Each project task also includes a description of the task. You can also specify the billing type. Here you can choose between "Fixed price", billing according to "Effort" or "No billing".

If you allow feedback on a project, you can define which resources (e.g. consultants, freelancers) are allowed to provide feedback on their time spent on a specific project task.

If at least one project task exists for the project, you have the option of setting up Project planning lines and to post the consumption for the project. Using the project planning lines, you can see the exact consumption of resources, articles and various expense items.

A project planning line can be one of the following Species be:

  • BudgetThe purpose is to specify the estimated consumption values and costs for the project, usually in an expense contract. Plan lines of the type "Budget" cannot be invoiced.
  • InvoiceableThe purpose is to indicate the estimated invoicing for the debtor, usually in a fixed price project.
  • Budget and billableThe purpose is to indicate the planned consumption that corresponds to the value to be invoiced.
