With the changeover from Microsoft Dynamics NAV to Dynamics 365 Business Central, Microsoft's upgrade schedule has also changed.
In future, two new major releases for Dynamics 365 Business Central will be published each year - the Spring Release in the spring and the Fall Release in the fall. In addition, there will be cumulative updates throughout the year that relate to security, reliability and performance improvements.
The current release has been available since the beginning of April 2019 and comes with a range of new features and functions. The focus is primarily on stability, security and performance. Many improvements and corrections have been made in the area of development, but a lot has also been done in terms of usability and user-friendliness.
We have summarized the most important new features here.
- The spring release is the last version that still has a Windows client. After that, access will only be possible via the web client or app.
The same applies to development: this is the last version with C/AL development; in future releases, development will be carried out entirely in AL using VS Code. - Furthermore, installation is possible both on-premise and in the cloud.
- New web service standard APIs are available in version 1.0 and support the "Open API 3.0" standard.
- Many detailed improvements have been made to the web client itself, enabling smooth use of the web interface in the browser or as an app for desktop and tablet. New keyboard shortcuts, quick entry (fast entry of mandatory fields) on document pages, list sorting or fast list scrolling significantly increase the speed of data entry and analysis.
