Is electronic invoicing now mandatory?

YES, it's true! The Federal Ministry of Finance is planning to introduce mandatory electronic invoicing for all domestic B2B (business to business) transactions from January 1, 2025. Until now, the e-invoicing obligation (ZUGFeRD or XRechnung) only applied to public contracts. From 2025, a general e-invoicing obligation will apply and all companies must at least be able to receive electronic invoices from this date. According to the current status, there will be a transitional rule for creating and sending invoices until 2026.

Exempt from the electronic invoicing obligation are tax-free sales, small-value invoices, travel tickets and companies whose last annual turnover was < €800. However, the latter must also have switched to electronic invoicing by 1.1.2027 at the latest.

Is the changeover to e-billing still ahead of you?

In cooperation with associations, ministries and companies, the "Forum elektronische Rechnung Deutschland (FeRD)" has developed the cross-industry data format for electronic invoice data exchange, ZUGFeRD, for the processing of e-invoices. It ensures that invoices can be exchanged quickly and easily.

As an extension for Microsoft Dynamics Business Central/ Dynamics NAV, we supply you with the ZUGFeRD Interface add-on, which provides you with XRechnung as a transmission format in addition to ZUGFeRD.

We also offer the italian Document format Fattura B2B Version 1.2 which is mandatory for all transactions to other Italian countries. This is because since July 2022, electronic transaction transmission as an XML file to the Italian VAT registration office called "Sistema di Interscambio" ("SdI") has been mandatory in Italy.

Advantages:

The advantages are obvious: the transmission of e-invoices is quick and convenient with the ZUGFeRD interface, especially because all invoices can be read directly into Business Central. Outgoing invoices can be sent regardless of whether the recipient uses ZUGFeRD or not. This saves postage costs, paper and other invoicing costs.
