Important information for all existing customers:
Support for the Windows Server 2003 product family ends on 14.07.2015. For security reasons, customers who are using this product family will not be able to avoid an upgrade. However, higher server versions do not necessarily support older NAV versions in use.
Mainstream support for the operating system, which was introduced in 2003, ended on July 13, 2010, and extended support will now also end on July 14, 2015. This also applies to the R2 editions. Today, the 2003 editions still account for 39% of all Windows Server installations. The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team warns of the dangers of missing security updates and points out possible violations of compliance guidelines.
The remedy is to upgrade to the current version Windows Server 2012 R2. However, this is likely to be anything but trivial for most companies. Microsoft explains that almost everything changes with the architectural changes from 32-bit to 64-bit technology.
For NAV versions up to NAV 2009 SP1, the 32-bit variant of the server versions 2003 SP1 and 2003 R2 SP2 is still a frequently encountered infrastructure. But higher server versions do not necessarily support older NAV versions in use.
