The latest version of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (Wave 2) has been released. Wave 2 is equipped with numerous new functions, enhancements and optimizations, with the focus of the new release being on improving performance, expanding support options and security.
Probably the most serious changes concern the NAV client and the development environment:
- Modern client:
Wave 2 is the first version that no longer has a classic Windows client. With the modern client users access Business Central via the browser, the Windows 10 desktop app, mobile apps on Android and iOS or in Outlook. The Windows client is to be completely discontinued for Business Central in future. However, the older Dynamics NAV client and earlier versions in line with the support lifecycle will continue to be supported in the April 2019 update. - Modern developer tools:
A lot has also changed in the development environment. Wave 2 is the first version that no longer contains a classic development environment (C/SIDE). It has been replaced by a modern development environment based on Visual Studio Code with Azure DevOps and an AL language.
C/SIDE will also no longer be provided in future Business Central versions. However, the classic development environment will continue to be supported in the April 2019 update and earlier versions in accordance with the support lifecycle. - Application improvements
However, numerous improvements have also been made to the application. The focus here has primarily been on the most frequently used areas. The changes include, for example, allowing non-consecutive numbering, canceling reminders and interest invoices, transferring item descriptions when posting to general ledger entries and much more.
