Basic settings in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Today's How-To article shows you how to customize the following basic settings in your Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central interface:

  • Region/Language
  • Home page (Roll center)
  • Individual notifications
  • Work date
  • Company data

Region/Language

  1. Click the Settings button (gear wheel at the top right) and then on "My settings".
  2. By clicking on the 3 dots in the "Region" resp. "Language" opens a window with a selection.
  3. Select the desired region/language and confirm with "OK". The Language field only appears if several languages are available for your region.

Home page (Roll center)

The Role Center in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is the personalized start page that provides users with an overview of relevant information, tasks and functions tailored to their role in order to make their day-to-day work more efficient. You can choose between various start pages preconfigured by Microsoft.

  1. Click on the Settings button (gear wheel at the top right) and then on "My settings".
  2. Select here in the area "Roll" the 3 points.
  3. In the overview that appears, select the role that suits you (here Managing Director) and confirm with "OK".

Individual notifications

Notifications in Business Central are automatic messages that inform users about important events or upcoming tasks. Users have the option to customize these notifications to their individual needs, for example to receive notifications when stock levels are low.

  1. Click on the Settings button (gear wheel at the top right) and then on "My settings".
  2. Select in the "Notifications" the field "Change when I receive notifications.".
  3. Set checkmarks in categories as required, such as "Few items in stock" . Then close the window with the button at the bottom right.

Work date

The working date in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is a user-defined date that is used as a default when processing transactions to make it easier to post transactions, regardless of the current date. To simplify entry, you can enter the letter "a" for the working date and the letter "h" for the current date in date fields. Confirm each entry with Enter.

To change the working date:

  1. Click on the Settings button (gear wheel at the top right) and then on "My settings".
  2. Set your desired date in the "Working date" fixed. Clicking on the calendar symbol opens a date selection dialog.
  3. Confirm with "OK".

Company data

The Company data tab allows you to configure company-related details such as name, address or communication and payment information. The Company logo can be embedded here.

  1. Click on the Settings button (gear wheel at the top right) and then on "Company data".
  2. Make all the desired settings and then close the window with the arrow in the top left-hand corner. All changes are automatically saved for you.
