The new release (version 21.0) of the tried-and-tested Microsoft ERP system Business Central was published just in time for the start of October. As with previous releases, Microsoft has based the new functions and features on the most frequently mentioned improvement requests from users. The focus is therefore entirely on user-friendliness so that business processes can be carried out even more productively.
We would like to present a few selected innovations here as examples.
Application and user experience
- The visual customization of the user interface, which makes it easy to switch between several companies, is particularly noteworthy here, see Fig.
- But a lot has also been done in the financial area, for example bank reconciliation is being further improved.
The test report will be improved, two sections for pending reconciliations will be added to the statement report and the automation of check items will be improved. - Furthermore, multiple payee addresses can now be used for creditors
Microsoft 365 applications
The interaction between Business Central and various Microsoft 365 applications has also been further enhanced in this release:
- Administrators gain more control over the OneDrive integration
- The efficiency of collaborative business processes in Microsoft Teams is improved - users can now pin cards in Teams
- The Excel report layout has been optimized
- Reports can be executed and sent via the request page
Governance and administration
- Administrators receive more and better communication options
- Licensed users can be updated more quickly in Business Central. Especially in large companies, the Azure Active Directory often contains a large number of user accounts - the process can be accelerated here
- Deleted environments are easier to restore. This can protect against data loss if an environment is accidentally deleted or a trial version expires
OnBoarding
- Organizations can become productive faster because it is now even easier to discover and install apps.
This is just a small selection of the new and planned features to be released between October 2022 and March 2023.
