Reference project: New introduction of Business Central Version 18

Today we would like to present a project at the EQS Group AGa leading international cloud provider in the areas of corporate compliance, investor relations and sustainability reporting (ESG Tech), based in Munich. The company, which provides innovative services for listed companies with around 500 users, introduced Business Central Version 18 and partially transferred data from the legacy NAV system.

What was the challenge?

EQS Group AG was using a highly modified system with many third-party add-ons, so there were quite a few concerns before the upgrade due to the high level of complexity.
The aim was to return the software used with numerous interfaces to the standard as far as possible and to consolidate or replace the third-party add-ons. In addition, the existing functionalities, which were still analyzed as necessary, were to be sensibly distributed across the various apps/extensions.

The technical infrastructure

The installed system is an on-premise installation hosted by com:3000 IT-Services GmbH, based in Fürstenfeldbruck, distributed across several servers (database and application servers) in the private cloud.

The highlights of the project

  • The extension of the service contract module in order to be able to map the contract types of EQS Group AG.
  • The import of customer data & contract data from Microsoft CRM / integration via Dateverse
  • The introduction of the web service interface for importing and processing transaction data and billing data from the cloud portal
  • The connection of an external purchasing solution
  • The mapping of cross-client project time recording in a central client for all projects
  • The adjustments introduced for automated e-mail dispatch (different e-mail templates depending on language and customer group)
  • The implementation of a customized release workflow for incoming documents in Continia Document Capture
  • The adaptation or creation of profiles of user groups and authorization concepts

The features

All customizations were provided as extension apps. As the standard objects were not adapted, the customer can now upgrade much more easily. In addition, all code changes are monitored by a versioning system (Git). The completed customizations are released in accordance with the dual control principle and are implemented via DevOps in CI/CD (Continuos Integration, Continuos Deployment) is automatically provided in the test system. Once EQS Group AG has tested and approved the imported adaptations, they are deployed in the live system.

Third-party add-ons used

EQS Group AG uses the following add-ons:

  • ForNAV
  • OPplus
  • Continia Document Capture
  • XtensionIT - Multi Entity Management

The project model

After analyzing the requirements and defining the migration packages, we followed an agile development model by iteratively implementing and demonstrating the adjustments (iterative prototyping). The data migration took place in several waves. After training the employees and an extensive test phase with functional, integration and acceptance tests, the go-live took place successfully and on schedule.

With the switch from Navision to Business Central, BR AG supported us from the conception to the go-live. Thanks to competent advice and a solution-oriented approach, we were able to successfully complete the project. BR AG continues to support us as a partner and thanks to the friendly and customer-oriented support, we will also master the future challenges of the system together.
