For security reasons, customers who are using this product family should immediately upgrade to the current version Windows Server 2012 R2. However, higher server versions do not necessarily support older NAV versions in use.

With a technical upgrade, it is possible to make many older NAV versions compatible with Windows Server 2012 R2 with little effort.

Technical upgrade

The technical update refers to the installation of the new client and server software with subsequent import of the existing database. Newer technical options are released by updating the programs/executables, DLLs etc. The program objects themselves remain unchanged and the functionality remains the same. The program objects themselves remain unchanged and the functionality remains 1:1.

The primary aim of technical updates is therefore to ensure compatibility with new technological developments. In our example, compatibility with Windows Server 2012 R2. A technical upgrade also opens up new possibilities (depending on the version):

New object types

New functions, methods and data types

Support for extended Automation Server

Improved stability and compatibility with hardware and operating systems

Technical upgrades are generally possible with little effort. Even if the official Microsoft recommendation for a technical upgrade to use Windows Server 2012 R2 ends with NAV version 2009 R2: In many cases of lower versions, this measure can still be implemented without risk.

[cta id="1505″ vid="0″]

Further information on Windows Server 2003

Am 14.07.2015 endet der Support für die Produktfamilie Windows Server 2003.
