Reference projects of bartolome röder AG: Mail order business

In our series of reference projects from bartolome röder AG, we would like to tell you today about the optimization process of the warehouse processes of a customer from the Online mail order business report.

The e-commerce company has around 300 employees, of whom around 100 work with Dynamics NAV on a daily basis. The objective was to Optimization of warehouse processes in the ERP process Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 due to the rapid growth of the company.

The company

The online mail order company, which has been able to establish itself on the German market in just a few years, has to coordinate a large number of orders every day. An extensive portfolio means that a large storage area is required. This sometimes results in long routes, which also need to be optimized.

Challenge

The biggest challenge was to optimize the warehouse processes so that they could cope with the company's rapid growth. Process optimization played a particularly important role. One of the problems was that users had blocked each other from working in the system.

The highlights of the optimization process

In the following we would like to Highlights of the optimization process in extracts:

A key component was the Optimization of the incoming goods process. Adjustments in NAV made it possible for several employees to process the goods receipt at the same time without error messages or incorrect postings. This was achieved by adding an additional screen to the standard system.

Furthermore, the Optimization of the picking process. The provision of goods by zone, storage bin and article was introduced here. Storage bin weighting was carried out according to number sequence. Picking by order has optimized the routes by over 25 %.

Yet another adjustment was made by the Optimization of the packing process is shown. A task queue has been introduced here, for example. Any number of items can now be scanned, registered and then packed. All items scanned during the registration process end up in a task queue and can then be booked by a user at the end without overlapping.

And also the Optimization of the returns process was successfully mapped in NAV. The booking paths were essentially shortened and thus optimized. Goods on backorder can now be identified more quickly as A or C goods, assigned to the correct warehouse and, if necessary, reshipped.

Realization of the project

The optimization of the warehouse processes in the Dynamics NAV system was implemented in a timeframe of 3 months.

Thanks to a structured approach and good cooperation between the customer and the development team, the project was successfully completed on time.
